About Me
I am a nature loving, outdoor exploring mom of three energetic boys. I live in Calgary, Alberta and enjoy getting outside in many of the wonderful natural spaces Canada has to offer. I am a movement teacher and professional kinesiologist who can help you discover where you may be missing strength and mobility. Join me to learn how to get outside, move better, and feel good in your body, no matter your age. My Story During my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at the University of Lethbridge, I had the opportunity to work on a health promotion team (Healthy U) as a summer job. I loved interacting with the public and sharing simple tips that could make a big difference in health. As a graduate student in Kinesiology at Cal Poly, I immersed myself in study of the human body in relation to exercise, but I felt drawn to the health promotion aspect of kinesiology. While many of my classmates focused their studies on athletes and performance, I wanted to help everyday people feel good in their bodies in a way that was achievable in real life. Real life is messy, and rarely are the conditions perfect to choose health. I've worked in public health in both Alberta and California, but have always craved something a little more hands-on (I am miserable if I'm sitting in a cubicle; my body wants to move!). After multiple HG pregnancies, and becoming a mom to two adventurous, outdoor loving boys, I discovered the work of biomechanist Katy Bowman, founder of the Nutritious Movement Center and Restorative Exercise. I spent two years studying whole body alignment, healthy foot mechanics, and applying what I had learned in my kinesiology degrees to human movement as a whole. I have learned how movement is essential to our physiology, how infrequently our current habits require us to move, and how certain parts of our bodies aren’t moving as well as they should. After navigating recurrent pregnancy loss, we finally welcomed the final member of our family last summer. I am on a lifelong journey of learning about movement ecology and healing my body through restorative exercise and abundant whole body movement. Join me to discover how bodies are designed to move and how we can move them in a way that will keep us healthy through all of life’s stages (while still living a wonderful, imperfect, messy life). |
